On Saturday the Dallas Cowboys offered a slew of injury updates prior to their must-win matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Most notably, Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has been activated for Sunday’s game and will be in action for the first time since October should he suit up. The Cowboys have also placed CB DaRon Bland on injured reserve, ending his season, and elevated CB Corey Ballentine from the practice squad.

Diggs hasn’t played since the team lost on the road to the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 12. He was expected to play the following week, but Diggs suffered a concussion at his home in what he and the Cowboys have deemed as an unspecified accident. A couple weeks later, Diggs was placed on injured reserve, the team citing knee issues.

Last week, Diggs told reporters that he expected to play against the Minnesota Vikings and that he was healthy. The team told him Saturday that he wasn’t activated. Brian Schottenheimer said he gave Diggs multiple reasons why during a talk in his office the day before the game, the Cowboys head coach needing more “consistency” from the 27-year-old corner.

Meanwhile, Bland’s season appears to be over with the cornerback likely requiring foot surgery. A person with knowledge of Bland’s thinking told The Dallas Morning News on Friday that Bland was seeking a second opinion on whether he needs surgery. His placement on IR would seem to indicate that he does.

Bland underwent surgery on the same foot last season, which caused him to miss the first ten games. Bland returned and played in seven games. This season, Bland played in 12 games, recording one interception and six pass breakups.

Ballentine is a 29-year-old journeyman cornerback who has spent time with nine different teams since he was drafted by the Giants in 2019. He’s appeared in two games for Dallas this season.

The Cowboys have also changed the injury designation for DT Quinnen Williams, who was questionable with a concussion. He’s now listed as questionable with “concussion/neck.”
