The Washington Commanders are hosting the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16 NFL action from Northwest Stadium and are already dealing with injuries. After forcing the Eagles to punt on their first drive of the game, Commanders rookie wide receiver Jaylin Lane was back deep to return the punt.

The Eagles quickly arrived, taking down Lane for no gain on the punt return. However, Lane took a hard shot to his lower body and was slow to get up. When he did, he went into the blue medical tent before going into the locker room.

The Commanders have revealed that Lane suffered an ankle injury and is questionable to return.

The rookie fourth-round pick from Virginia Tech has quickly become one of the NFL’s better punt returners. Of all players with 20 or more returns, Lane is ranked No. 4, averaging 14.3 yards per attempt, No. 6 in punt-return yardage and tied with four others for the most punt return touchdowns in the league.

It’s unknown who will replace Lane if he can’t return. Cornerback Mike Sainristil did for one play in a game earlier this season against Miami and fumbled.
