The Philadelphia Eagles played the Washington Commanders in a Division rivalry matchup at Northwest Stadium in Landover Maryland.The Commanders, although out of playoff contention and without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels who is out for the season, were looking for revenge after the Eagles knocked them out of the playoffs in the NFC conference championship last year. Philly was trying to maintain momentum after pitching a shut-out win against the Las Vegas Raiders last week. The first half started out in true division rivalry matchup fashion with the Commanders setting the pace. The Eagles received the opening kick, but Washington’s special teams flipped the script immediately. Cornerback Mike Sainristil stripped the ball from Eagles running back Will Shipley, and Kain Medrano recovered the fumble to give the Commanders the first possession of the game.The Commanders secured an early 3-0 lead with kicker Jake Moody making a 20-yard field goal. Philadelphia responded in the first quarter when Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts connected with wide receiver DeVonta Smith for a six-yard touchdown giving Philly a 7-3 lead. In the second quarter, the Commanders fired back when rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt scored on a one-yard TD run, giving Washington a 10-7 lead.The Eagles tried to tie it up before halftime, but Eagles kicker Jake Elliot missed the field goal, his second miss of the half.Philly trailed Washington 10-7 at the half.Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota was injured in the second half and third-string quarterback Josh Johnson played the rest of the game. The Eagles took the lead when Jalen Hurts connected with tight-end Dallas Goedert for a touchdown making it 14-10. Washington struggled offensively for the entire third quarter with Johnson throwing an interception to Eagles cornerback Cooper Dejean. Going into the fourth quarter, the Eagles drove down the field and running back Saquon Barkley took it in for a TD, making it 21-10. The Eagles wouldn’t stop there. With four minutes left in the fourth, Eagles running back Tank Bigsby found a gap and took it 22-yards for a touchdown. Then Philly went for the 2-point conversion. Barkley took it in and the Eagles widened the gap to 29-10. The Commanders tried to stay in the game with only a minute and some change left on the clock. Running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. took the ball into the endzone for a three-yard touchdown. Washington would go for two as well, and converted, bringing the score to 29-18. After a failed onside kick, the Eagles regained possession and ran out the clock.The Eagles take the win, bringing their record to 10-5 while the Commanders fall to 4-11.
