Joe Burrow…Miami Dolphins quarterback? According to a report Saturday by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins made a major play before the 2020 NFL Draft to ensure the services of the former LSU quarterback.

Per Schefter, the Dolphins offered the Cincinnati Bengals a whopping four first-round picks in exchange for the No. 1 overall pick and the right to select Burrow. The Bengals shot down the offer before it had any chance of gaining any sort of traction.

Fast forward five years, the Bengals have Burrow on a contract paying him $55 million per year. The Dolphins are also paying Tua Tagovailoa over $50 million per year, but have benched him for rookie Quinn Ewers heading into Sunday’s game between the Bengals and the Dolphins.

Cincinnati isn’t moving on from Burrow anytime soon while Miami now faces a major decision on Tagovailoa, one that includes facing a potential $99 million dead money charge — Miami can lost Tagovailoa as a post-June 1 cut and spread the cap hit over two years, $67.4 million in 2026 and $31.8 million in 2027.

Speculation is going around that the Bengals may consider trading Burrow in the offseason, but the team has too much invested in him that the odds are extremely unlikely a deal will actually happen.
