We’ve got a quick list of New Orleans Saints roster moves ahead of Week 16’s game with the New York Jets. Two new faces have joined the practice squad, while the Saints have released a kicker and lost a promising rookie draft pick to a season-ending injury. Here’s everything you need to know from Thursday’s update to the daily NFL transactions wire.

RB Devin Neal lost to injured reserve

This is a tough blow. Neal seemed to be coming on strong in recent weeks, making strides as a rusher while continuing to play a key role on passing downs, but a hamstring injury suffered against the Carolina Panthers is ending his season. He finishes with 206 rushing yards and two touchdowns with 104 receiving yards, having caught 17 of his 19 targets. Read more here.

WR Kevin Austin Jr. promoted to the 53-man roster

Austin has previously appeared in five games between stints on the practice squad and 53-man roster, but he’s only caught three passes for 33 yards (and two first downs). He figures to remain a depth option with Devaughn Vele on the mend and Mason Tipton dealing with an illness. Look for Chris Olave to draw a lot of targets this week, but Dante Pettis is also in the mix.

K Cade York released from the practice squad

York was signed as competition for Irish kicker Charlie Smyth, but the young pro’s early successes have made the need for two kickers less of a priority. Good luck to York in his next stop. For his part, Smyth is 4-for-5 on field goals and perfect on five extra points.

RB Nyheim Hines signed to the practice squad

Hines is an NFL veteran who has been slowly working his way back from a major knee injury he suffered in a freak accident while jet skiing. When he was healthy and playing well for the Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts, Hines was seen as a dynamic third-down back who could make something out of nothing. He’ll hope to recapture that spark in New Orleans Read more here.

WR Elijah Cooks signed to the practice squad

Cooks has experience with Kellen Moore and his offensive coaching staff — the Philadelphia Eagles signed him to their practice squad in time for their Super Bowl run earlier this year, so he was in the room for meetings and working on the practice field with them every day. He’s got size at a listed 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds. With Devaughn Vele managing a shoulder injury, he could get some looks quickly. Read more here.
