In a slew of Saturday transactions, the Detroit Lions placed safety Kerby Joseph on injured reserve, seemingly ending the All-Pro’s season. Joseph, the NFL’s interceptions leader in 2024, hasn’t played since Detroit’s Week 6 date against Kansas City.

The 6-foot, 210-pound safety injured his knee during Lions training camp, suffered a bone bruise in the same spot in a Week 4 win against the Cleveland Browns and is reportedly dealing with a cartilage issue that has made it too painful to play.

Joseph will miss at least four more games now on IR. Though he would be eligible to return if Detroit advanced to the Divisional Round of the playoffs, the expectation is that Joseph’s season is over and that he will pursue non-surgical options to help his knee this offseason, such as stem-cell therapy, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Detroit also activated a starter to its 53-man roster. The Lions have been hopeful that starting left guard Christian Mahogany may return on Sunday, and the franchise’s decision to activate Mahogany from the injured reserve list is one more indication that he could play against the Steelers.

Mahogany suffered a leg fracture against the Vikings and has missed the past six weeks. The second-year pro out of Boston College started each of the Lions’ first eight games at left guard.

“Yesterday, I thought he looked pretty good. Wasn’t perfect, but I thought he looked pretty good,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said of Mahogany on Friday. “And some of it’s going to be, I know he’s a little sore today, and how he feels in today’s practice. That’s what a lot of it’s going to come down to.”

Detroit also elevated offensive lineman Kingsley Eguakun and tight end Giovanni Ricci from the practice squad. Eguakun’s elevation might signal that starting center Graham Glasgow’s status is trending in the wrong direction. Glasgow wasn’t on the Lions’ initial estimated Wednesday injury report, but Glasgow’s name popped up on Thursday as a did not participate with a knee ailment.

Glasgow’s game status was categorized as “questionable” on Friday after he did not participate once again.
