NFL Week 16 picks include Chargers, Eagles and Panthers
Lorenzo Reyes explains why he’s picking two underdogs from Sunday’s slate of games.
The Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots are meeting late in the season in a massive contest for the AFC playoffs.
Four months ago, that would’ve seemed like a pipe dream for Patriots fans – or a line midway through a documentary on the 2012 NFL season.
But as we enter the final three weeks of the regular season, it’s very real for both New England and Baltimore. Each of these teams needs a key win in prime time for different reasons.
Baltimore started off slow with a 1-5 start ahead of their Week 7 bye. They remained the betting favorites to take the AFC North crown despite missing quarterback Lamar Jackson for multiple games due to injury. They won five straight after the bye before tough losses to the Bengals and Steelers in Weeks 13 and 14, respectively. A bounce-back shutout win over Cincinnati last week puts them at 7-7 and still in range for the division crown but every game is a must-win for them to get there.
New England saw their 10-game winning streak snapped last week at home against the Buffalo Bills. The Patriots couldn’t hold on to a first-half lead and the Bills came roaring back in the second half to steal back a division win. That takes the Patriots out of the top spot of the AFC playoffs. A win against Baltimore on the road could keep them in the running to have home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs.
