The exodus from Ann Arbor began on Sunday after Michigan‘s offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey revealed that he has quit the program to join Missouri.

Lindsey’s departure marks the latest blow for the Wolverines following the firing and arrest of former head coach Sherrone Moore earlier this month.

Moore, 39, was fired as head coach of the Wolverines due to an ‘inappropriate relationship’ with a staff member before police arrested him over the alleged assault.

Moore, who is charged with breaking and entering, home invasion and stalking, spent two nights in jail before he was granted a $25,000 bond and released.

However, the scandal has had knock-on effects on the school’s football program and now Lindsey has revealed his decision to leave Michigan.

He walks away from the Big Ten powerhouse after just one season, choosing to distance himself from the scandal and join the Missouri Tigers.

‘I could not be happier to have the opportunity to work with [Tigers head coach] Eli Drinkwitz in Columbia,’ Lindsey said in a statement released by Missouri on Sunday.

‘What Coach Drinkwitz has done at Mizzou over the past six years is remarkable. You couple that with the commitment the University of Missouri has made to the football program, this is one of the most attractive coordinator jobs in the country.

‘The commitment and infrastructure in place from an organizational standpoint and the talent on the field is truly exciting,’ Lindsey explained.

Meanwhile, Missouri head coach Drinkwitz released his own statement, praising Lindsey for the ‘tremendous’ work he had done in Michigan.

“We are excited to welcome Chip Lindsey to Mizzou to lead our offense,’ Drinkwitz said in a statement on Sunday.

‘He does a tremendous job of not only coaching and developing players but organizing and implementing the offense. He is an excellent offensive mind with a wide range of experience.’

Lindsey replaces Kirby Moore, who recently left Missouri to take over as the head coach at Washington State.

Lindsey had been a bright spot in a dark year for Michigan, helping lead to the team to the conference’s 11th best scoring offense – averaging 27.6 points per game.

His immediate exit comes amid Sherrone Moore’s disgraceful scandal which saw his contract with Michigan terminated on December 10th after claims that he engaged in an ‘inappropriate relationship’ with a staff member.

Just hours after losing his job, he was arrested for allegedly breaking into the home of his executive assistant, Paige Shiver.

Police allege Moore entered the home with a knife and engaged in a terrifying verbal altercation with a woman.

‘I’m going to kill myself,’ Moore allegedly told the victim, according to documents. I’m going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands. You ruined my life.’

The former coach now faces felony charges of third-degree home invasion, along with stalking and breaking and entering.

Recently, the lawyer of the woman he is accused of attacking allegedly told police that Moore had a ‘long history’ of domestic violence.

During Friday’s court hearing, it was revealed that the alleged victim’s lawyer, listed as Heidi Sharp, told police that the disgraced head coach has previously been accused of domestic violence against her client and was ‘very dangerous’, per USA Today.

Sharp said her client, who told police she has ‘never been more terrified’ in her life, phoned her as soon as Moore allegedly broke into the apartment and started threatening to kill himself following his Michigan firing.

The Wolverines, who finished the season 9–3, will be led into the bowl game by interim head coach Biff Poggi.

Meanwhile, Moore remains out on a $25,000 bond, facing a potential sentence of six-and-a-half years if convicted.
