Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs is making waves for a move he made following the team’s loss to the Tennessee Titans.
It was another rough game for Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Chiefs closed out their game against the Tennessee Titans with a lopsided 26-9 final score. That’s uncharacteristic for a team that’s used to going to the playoffs every single year, but unfortunately, it’s been how this season has played out for the Chiefs, who now have a 6-9 record for the season.
Following the game, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid talked about the loss. “Nobody likes losing in this business,” Reid said in his postgame press conference. “My hat goes off to the guys that put together all these years. That’s part of it. We can learn from it and need to do that going forward. Sometimes a good kick in the tail helps you, coaches and players.”
Kelce has made a habit of skipping media sessions after games that the Chiefs have lost, and that doesn’t sit well with some in the NFL. Following the Chiefs’ loss to the Titans, he was also nowhere to be found, and while some aren’t happy about it, others are defending his decision and giving him support.
Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs Get Support and Criticism
So, Kelce skipped the media session, but some think it’s the right move. “More players should not speak to the media after games,” one follower said on X. “Travis Kelce is proving he is the smartest person in the organization – players, coaches, staff, management, ownership family all included.”
“If you want to know just how bad NFL & Chiefs beat reporters are, just know there’s more reporters than not currently more outraged with Travis Kelce not doing a postgame interview rather than Brett Veach and Andy Reid’s roster losing by 17 points to a 2-12 Titans team,” another said.
But, Chiefs reporter Pete Mundo doesn’t like Kelce skipping media rounds. “Will Travis Kelce talk to the media after this loss?” he asked on X. “-200 odds he passes, per usual, after a loss. Hope I’m wrong.”
Kelce could get punished for skipping the media session, but that hasn’t happened yet, and he’s done this several times this season. Every Saturday during the season, the NFL gives punishments to players for actions taken during the previous week’s games. The NFL states on their official website that these actions are “to protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity.”
It’s worth noting that instead of talking to the press, Kelce often openers up about these losses on his “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Jason.
Another Quarterback Issue for the Kansas City Chiefs
During the game, the Chiefs also lost quarterback Gardner Minshew to an ACL injury. Losing both franchise quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Minshew to ACL injuries just one week apart from each other is crazy.
Chris Jones said after the game that despite the stunning circumstances of losing starters in consecutive weeks, the defense still had to do its job. “It’s always unfortunate to just lose a player,” Jones said, “but we’re talking about a quarterback who facilitates the ball on our team. It’s definitely an unprecedented situation that I’ve never been a part of.
“But as coach Reid said, we work with who we got, and we just keep it moving. Defense, we always have the pressure on us to stop them, give our offense the ball in good field situation, and get off the field on third down. So, today it was no different.”
