The Philadelphia Eagles clinched the NFC East Division Title with a 29-18 victory over the Washington Commanders. They overcame a 10-7 halftime deficit to ultimately put away the Commanders.

The Eagles became the first team in the NFC East to repeat as Division Champs since they did it in 2004. By winning the division, the Eagles are guaranteed to have at least one home playoff game.

The offense was once again pretty efficient. It racked up 385 total yards and had the ball for almost ten more minutes than the Commanders. The defense was also pretty dominant. After the Eagles fumbled the opening kickoff, the defense held the Commanders to a field goal. They also had two sacks and forced an interception.

One play to keep an eye on when these two teams meet again in two weeks is the two-point conversion the Eagles ran leading by 17 in the fourth quarter. The Commanders took offense to that and a brawl started immediately after the Eagles succeeded on the two-point try. Tyler Steen and two Commanders were ejected from the game.

The Eagles improved to 10-5 with two games remaining. They visit the Buffalo Bills next week before closing out the regular season at home against the Commanders.

Here is the latest edition of Grayson’s Grades:

A

Jalen Hurts – Hurts was efficient with the ball and did not turn it over. Those are two big keys that when he accomplishes them this team usually wins. He also used his legs well for the second week in a row. He could have had another touchdown, but the pass into the endzone went off DeVonta Smith’s hands and fell incomplete. Hurts led the team on three drives of 11 plays or longer including a 17 play drive that covered 83 yards and took nearly 11 minutes off the clock. That drive ended with a great pass to Dallas Goedert for a touchdown. Hurts completed 22 of 30 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns. He also carried the ball seven times for 40 yards.

Saquon Barkley – Barkley continues to look better and better as the season continues. I believe the offensive line is blocking better, but Barkley is also hitting the holes better and fighting through contact well. His signature run in this game was on a run up the middle from the 12-yard line. He was hit, took on the would-be tacklers and spun out of it before taking on another would-be tackler en route to the endzone. It was a great hard-fought run to earn the touchdown. He also had a 48-yard carry in this game. Barkley carried it 21 times for 132 yards and a touchdown.

AJ Brown – Brown was a huge part of the game plan in the first half. He had 11 of his 12 targets in the opening half of the game. He was very effective and did a great job tacking on yards after the catch. Brown ultimately caught nine passes for 95 yards.

Jordan Davis – Davis is having his best season as a pro by far. He shed a lot of weight in the offseason and it is allowing him to stay on the field for a lot more snaps. He has done a great job stepping up in the absence of Jalen Carter. Davis continues to stuff the run well. I am eager to see how he looks when Carter returns healthy possibly as early as this weekend against the Bills. Davis finished tied for second on the team with six tackles. He added two tackles for a loss.

Brandon Graham – Graham does not get a ton of snaps, but man does he take advantage of the opportunities. He had two sacks in seven snaps last week. On his second snap in this game, he got to Marcus Mariota and brought him down for another sack. Graham is also doing a great job of working from the inside of the defensive line as well as his more traditional role as an edge rusher. He finished with one tackle, one sack, one tackle for a loss and one quarterback hit.

Cooper DeJean – DeJean saw a lot of passes come his way in this game. He successfully defended four of them including an interception in the third quarter. DeJean plays his role very well in Vic Fangio’s defense. He covers well and tackles well. It’s a great combination for a nickel corner. DeJean had five tackles to go along with those four passes successfully defended and an interception.

Quinyon Mitchell – Mitchell continues to be one of the best corners in the game in my opinion. His ability to stick to receivers and his perfect timing to break-up passes is fun to watch. Mitchell had one tackle and two passes successfully defended.

Kevin Patullo – Patullo put together another nice game. He had his offense in a rhythm and saw them go on three drives of at least 11 plays. The Eagles longest drive of the game was 17 plays covering 83 yards and ended with a touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts to Dallas Goedert. They would have put up more points had Jake Elliott not missed a pair of field goals. That being said, those drives were going well and stalled out leading to long field goal attempts. After putting Jalen Hurts under center a lot against the Raiders, the Eagles spent virtually the entire game in the shotgun or pistol formations. They looked to spread the Commanders out. They also went no-huddle several times, which I like because it keeps the defense from substituting. Ultimately Patullo’s offense racked up 385 yards with 207 of them coming on the ground. They racked up 26 first downs, possessed the ball for nearly ten more minutes than the Commanders and averaged 5.8 yards per play.

Vic Fangio – Fangio’s defense continues to be fun to watch. They are deep on the defensive line continuing to rotate in rested players. He is using Brandon Graham brilliantly and picking great times to send a blitz. His secondary is covering well which is freezing quarterbacks and allowing the pass rush to create havoc in the backfield. They forced an interception and racked up two sacks. They also held the Commanders to just 2-for-10 on third downs. I like the way this defense is playing and am excited to see how they perform when a healthy Jalen Carter returns to the field.

B

DeVonta Smith – Smith had a good game, but I felt I needed to dock him for dropping a touchdown. He never drops a pass so it was odd to see a ball go off his hands in the endzone. Other than that, he had a great game. He was targeted eight times and caught six of those passes for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Adoree Jackson – Jackson gave up a long gain to Terry McLaurin that ultimately led to a Commanders touchdown. Other than that, I thought he played pretty well. Jackson has played pretty well for several weeks now. He got off to a bit of a rocky start earlier in the year, but appears to have grasped Fangio’s defensive scheme and the role he is supposed to play in it. Jackson finished the game with four tackles.

Nick Sirianni – Sirianni seems to have a coupe of questionable decisions every game. the most critical decision was going for two after a touchdown that put the Eagles up by 17 in the fourth quarter. It offended the Commanders and led to a brawl on the field that saw Tyler Steen and two Commanders ejected from the game. These two teams meet again in two weeks and he definitely did not need to motivate them for that rematch. The special teams turnovers have been a bit of a problem this season and Will Shipley fumbling the opening kickoff cannot happen. Sirianni has to get the special teams in general buttoned up. Returning kickoffs has been an adventure at times this season. Jake Elliott’s missed field goals also added to the special teams blunders.

Offensive Line – The offensive line is definitely trending in the right direction. They are opening better holes for Saquon Barkley. They are pass-protecting better and perhaps the biggest improvement is limiting the penalties. Lane Johnson could be back as early as next week’s game against the Bills and they miss having him on the right side. His return will also allow the Eagles to go back to their jumbo formation that brings in Fred Johnson as an extra offensive lineman. The Eagles ran the ball for more than 200 yards thanks in large part to what the line did.

Will Shipley – Shipley absolutely cannot fumble any kickoff, especially the opening kickoff when you are trying to set a tone in the game. It gave the Commanders good field position. Fortunately for the Eagles, the Commanders managed just a field goal out of it. But against better teams in the playoffs, Shipley has got to have a clamp on that football and keep from fumbling it away.

F

Jake Elliott – Elliott has built up enough credit in this city and made enough big kicks to be able to have a “bad day.” He officially missed two kicks, but unofficially missed another that was erased due to a penalty by the Commanders. The most frustrating part about the misses was that they were all missed exactly the same – wide left. That includes the miss erased by penalty from 57 yards only to be missed again in the same fashion from 52 yards. Missing left would lead me to, if anything, overcompensate to the right. That’s how I try to manage my golf game. Elliott instead appeared to repeat the same kicks and got the same results. Elliott has always been there when this team needs him. I write this off as a “bad day” but he needs to start getting dialed in with the playoffs just a few weeks away.
