If the Buffalo Bills end up winning it all this season, Sean McDermott’s wife and son may deserve Super Bowl rings of their own, as the two are responsible for making sure that Buffalo’s head coach is only wearing contact lenses in-game.

This season, McDermott has donned glasses in six games. Buffalo’s record over that stretch was 3-3. On social media, the Bills Mafia noted the team’s play and record with McDermott donning spectacles.

McDermott’s son noticed the chatter online and alerted his father.

CBS Sports’ Evan Washburn revealed the entire story in the fourth quarter of the Bills’ 23-20 win over the Cleveland Browns.

“It started with his son alerting him to the fact that Bills Mafia was talking about the glasses and the record, as you saw there being that much more positive without,” Washburn said on the telecast.

A graphic on CBS’s broadcast screen showed that McDermott was 3-3 with the glasses and 7-1 without them.

McDermott’s wife supposedly heard the conversation between father and son and told her husband to stick with his contacts going forward.

“And then his wife endorsed it, so that’s why you no longer see the lenses,” Washburn added. “But they were prescription guys. This wasn’t just a style thing for Sean.”

McDermott has clearly listened to his significant other. He was wearing his contacts once again today, and it paid off with another win. Following Buffalo’s narrow victory over the Browns, McDermott now has a record of 8-1 in his contact lenses.
