We’re in the end game now, as several teams found out in Week 16. The playoff picture is clearing up, with two of the AFC teams locked into postseason spots and a whopping five of the NFC teams now cemented for the playoffs. The Jaguars and Patriots came away with massive wins on Sunday, setting up a wild race for the No. 1 seed in the AFC between Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence and Bo Nix. Teams might not be sitting their players much, if at all, on the AFC side, with so much at stake in the final two weeks.Â
Before we get there, though, we have to close out Week 16 with a banger of a Monday Night Football game with plenty at stake, as the San Francisco 49ers visit Philip Rivers and the Indianapolis Colts.Â
Best bets for Monday Night Football49ers -5.5 vs. Colts
Bet on the 49ers to cover at DraftKings with the DraftKings promo code:
Look, nothing about this pick makes me feel good. I’m a Philip Rivers guy through and through. I want the Colts to make the playoffs. I want Rivers to engineer a magical Cinderella run.Â
But the 49ers are on a roll right now, having won three straight and bludgeoned the teams they played. They also got their bye in Week 14, which appears to have allowed this team to get healthy at the right time. There’s still plenty of issues on defense from a health perspective, but the young replacements have filled in admirably. This team looks like it is going to be a problem come the playoffs.Â
San Francisco has already clinched a playoff berth but would love to keep winning and chase after the division title (or maybe the No. 1 seed), which would be quite likely if they win out. Â
I’m sure the Colts will hang in here for a hot minute, but the 49ers should pull away behind Christian McCaffery in what could be a potentially explosive performance in primetime.
Monday Night Football player propsJauan Jennings Over 4.5 receptions
With Ricky Pearsall out, Jennings has been a big focal point of the passing offense, along with McCaffrey and Kittle. I think that continues on Monday night in a game with a high-enough total (45.5) for us to anticipate plenty of passing.Â
Jennings hasn’t crossed this number the last two weeks, but the targets have been there every single week for the last month plus, with him getting between five and nine targets.Â
The Colts will offer a lot more offensive resistance than the Browns or Titans did, which should bump up the number of catches Jennings ends up with. Â
Anytime touchdown scorer picksGeorge Kittle anytime TD
Bet on anytime TD props at DraftKings:
Late in the season, with the 49ers looking to keep moving up the standings in a primetime game? This is where Kittle loves to ball out.
Brock Purdy’s return under center has greatly boosted Kittle’s production — the star tight end has 24 targets over the last three weeks alone. He’s been a monster for the 49ers in recent weeks.Â
The price isn’t massive, but it’s positive money and I love him as a pick to find the end zone on Monday.Â
Josh Downs anytime TD
The numbers for the Colts to score are pretty hilarious, especially the pass catchers. It reflects Rivers’ ability — or lack thereof, perhaps — to throw the ball downfield.Â
But Rivers was fine working the underneath routes and if you watched the game against Seattle, Downs could have easily scored twice if he and Rivers were on the same page with that moon ball fade he throws.Â
At almost 4-1, I will absolutely bank on Downs getting plenty of underneath work here and maybe some near the goal line. Â
