The Jacksonville Jaguars secured a spot in the playoffs for the ninth time in franchise history and the second time since the 2022 season after defeating the Denver Broncos 34-20 on Sunday.
At 11-4, the Jaguars also continued their lead in the AFC South, but will have to wait at least one more week to determine if they will hold onto the title. A win over the Broncos gives them a major step in the right direction. They’ll face the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans to close the season.
Jacksonville entered Sunday’s game against Denver needing a win and for the Houston Texans or the Indianapolis Colts to lose their matchups. Houston held off the Las Vegas Raiders 23-21, but the Colts went down 48-27 to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen became the third head coach in franchise history to take the team to the playoffs in their first year as a full-time coach (Doug Marrone, 2017; Doug Pederson, 2022).
Coen became the first coach in franchise history to reach 11 or more wins in the regular season in their first year as head coach; he also became the fastest coach in franchise history to reach 11 wins.
Jacksonville began the season 5-4 before winning the next six games to secure the spot.
The Jaguars will have a chance to win the AFC South over the next two weeks, as they face off against the Indianapolis Colts (Week 17) and Tennessee Titans (Week 18) to close out the season.
