Tennessee Football opened as a 5.5-point favorite over Illinois in the Music City Bowl back on December 7, but the line has moved toward the Illini over the last two weeks. The Vols are now down to a 2.5-point favorite, according to updated odds from BetMGM, with the total staying at 61.5.

Tennessee (8-4) and Illinois (8-4) on December 30 are scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time start on ESPN at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

The Vols will play the bowl game with linebackers coach William Inge as the interim defensive coordinator, after Josh Heupel fired Tim Banks earlier this month and hired former Penn State and Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.

“(Illinois has) physicality,” Heupel said last week, “their ability to run the football, veteran quarterback, play-action pass, pushing it down the football field. You got to have great gap integrity. You got to destruct blocks and tackle extremely well.

“And Coach Inge, our staff have done a great job here, building a plan and we got to continue to grow in that up until kickoff and then we got to go play.”
