Welcome to Week 17. The NFC playoff field is nearly set — five teams have clinched, and the final two spots could be clinched as soon as this week. While the NFC South winner still needs to be determined, only one wildcard spot remains open in the NFC — and it’s down to the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.

Who will claim the last spot in the field? Packers or Lions?

Clinching scenariosPackers: Green Bay needs ONE result — clinches a playoff spot with a win over Ravens or Vikings OR a Lions loss to Vikings or BearsLions: Detroit needs FOUR results — clinches a playoff spot with wins over Vikings and Bears AND Packers losses to Ravens and VikingsGreen Bay Packers (9-5-1)

The Packers were 9-3-1 but have lost back-to-back games. The Ravens will be fighting for their playoff lives on Saturday night at Lambeau Field. Both the Ravens and Vikings are currently dealing with injuries at quarterback — Lamar Jackson has a “significant” back contusion, while J.J. McCarthy injured his throwing hand. Both exited their respective games on Sunday and did not return. So did Jordan Love, who is in concussion protocol. Backup quarterbacks could have a big say in who secures the final spot.

The Lions, who were swept by the Packers and have lost three of the last four games, face the Vikings in Minneapolis on Christmas Day and must win to stay alive. It’s certainly possible Max Brosmer will be starting the game for the Vikings on Thursday. The Bears will almost certainly have something to play for in the regular season finale.
