Big changes could be coming to the NFL’s playoff format.
NFL owners will gather at the Spring League Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from May 20-21. Among the items on the agenda is a vote on to change the league’s playoff seeding, according to a report from The MMQB’s Albert Breer.

Under the proposed change, the four division winners would still reach the playoffs, followed by three wild card teams. Once they reach the postseason, though, clubs would be seeded strictly by record. So, a 10-7 division winner would be seeded lower than an 11-6 wild card team.
For clubs with the same record, the first tiebreaker would be if one of the teams won their division (regardless of head-to-head record). That would help retain some of the current value of winning a division.
Under the proposed seeding format, the Denver Broncos still would have made the playoffs with a 10-7 record in 2024.
Another rule change that will be voted on this week is a potential “Push Tush” ban. Such a ban would be relevant to the Broncos in 2025 because they are set to face the Philadelphia Eagles on the road this season.
