The Cleveland Browns have decided the future of quarterback Deshaun Watson for the rest of the 2025 season.
Watson had his practice window opened 21 days ago to potentially be activated off of the Physically Unable to Perform List. However, that practice window is only 21 days long, so the Browns had until today to make a decision on his future. And during his press conference today, head coach Kevin Stefanski stated that the Browns will not activate Watson to their active roster, and he will revert to PUP.

His season is over.
Given the insurance policy the Browns have on Watson’s deal, they are expected to have over $24 million of it insured and returned to their 2026 salary cap.
Watson is expected back on the roster in 2026 for one last year as the Browns continue to creatively work around the problem of his contract. Expect them to restructure the deal once again, then cut him as a post-June 1 designation after the 2026 season.
