Mike Gesicki has, arguably, been the biggest beneficiary of Joe Burrow returning from injury on Thanksgiving. With touchdowns in two of his last three games, we’re seeing why Burrow campaigned for him to get an extension this past offseason, which the Bengals honored by extending him three seasons in early March.
Sunday in Miami, Gesicki shined against his former team. The Bengals’ tight end caught three passes for 35 yards, including a 17-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter that extended the Bengals’ lead to 45-14.
Despite missing four games earlier this season with a pectoral injury, Gesicki has caught 24 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns. In four games since Joe Burrow has returned, Gesicki has caught 12 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns. That’s half of his season total in receptions, over half of his total yards, and both of his touchdowns.
The big thing Sunday, though, is that Gesicki scored against his former team in their stadium. Gesicki played his first five seasons in the NFL with the Dolphins, posting a career-high six touchdowns in 2020 and 780 receiving yards in 2021.
When Gesicki scored on Sunday, he did his famous version of the Griddy that he made famous in Miami.
