Joshua Karty won’t be returning to the Los Angeles Rams any time soon. The Arizona Cardinals officially signed the Rams kicker off the team’s practice squad on Tuesday.

Karty, a former 2024 sixth-round pick out of Stanford, was waived on November 28 after struggling with field goals and extra point attempts all season. The Rams re-signed him to the practice squad to keep him around, but the team never promoted him back to the active roster.

Now, he’ll land with the division rival Cardinals for at least the next game. Karty has a chance to take over the Arizona starting kicker job from Chad Ryland, who has missed six field goals in his past six games, including missing two of his six field goals in Week 16.

Karty, meanwhile, made 10-of-15 field goals and 23-of-26 extra points this season. In 2024, Karty made 29-of-34 field goals, including 6-for-7 from at least 50 yards.

With Karty gone, the Rams will have to stick with Mevis the rest of the way, which will likely include the playoffs. After going 8-for-8 on field goals and 32-for-32 on extra points, Mevis missed his first kick of the season in Week 16. It proved costly for L.A., as the 48-yarder would have put the Rams ahead in the final two minutes. Instead, L.A. went to overtime with Seattle and lost when the Seahawks scored a touchdown and converted a two-point conversion on their possession.

The Rams may see Karty this season, as L.A. and Arizona face off in Week 18.
