Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Anthony Richardson will not be activated from injured reserve this week, said head coach Shane Steichen on Wednesday.

Richardson returned to practice last week for the first time since suffering an orbital fracture near his eye.

Richardson has been on injured reserve since Oct. 12th.

Steichen has also announced that Phillip Rivers will be the Colts‘ starting quarterback against Jacksonville, regardless of whether or not the team is still in playoff contention come kickoff.

Riley Leonard will be the backup.

In each of the three practices last week, Richardson was a limited participant. Richardson was doing some work with the scout team offense as he ramps back up.

We will see if his workload in practice this week increases.

Richardson said he does not have any “major limitations” with his eye injury. He’s able to move around and do everything he needs to.

Whether Richardson is added back to the 53-man roster at any point or what his role is at that point still remains to be seen.
