When it comes to Jalen Ramsey’s future with the Miami Dolphins, it appears to be a matter of when – not if – he’ll be traded. The two sides have determined it’s best to move on and part ways, opening the door for Ramsey to be traded to a contender.

The Rams remain interested in the star cornerback and have had conversations with the Dolphins about a trade, but his contract is a major hurdle and could cause this situation to drag into June for salary cap purposes. And according to Adam Schefter’s latest report, there are a lot of teams interested in Ramsey’s services.

He’d be a seamless fit for just about any defense but in the mind of ESPN’s Matt Bowen, the Rams remain the best fit for Ramsey.

Miami general manager Chris Grier said the team is looking at offers for Ramsey, who is no longer a blue-chip defender at age 30. The Rams could use his skill set, as his jolt of speed and ball production would upgrade their secondary. They’d also have to give up a lot less this time around to acquire him.

Ramsey can still pattern match vertically downfield, and he still has high-end backfield vision in zone coverage. He would also give Los Angeles more flexibility in sub packages because he can create disruptive plays as a nickel corner. He had 2 interceptions, 8 pass breakups and 6 tackles for loss in Miami last season.

The combination of the Rams being a contender, Ramsey’s familiarity with their defense and the team’s need for cornerback talent makes Los Angeles the ideal landing spot. There haven’t been any reports about Ramsey’s preferred team but it’s easy to think the Rams would be up there for him on his wish list with all they have to offer.

If the Rams were to acquire Ramsey, he’d immediately become their best cornerback over Ahkello Witherspoon and Darious Williams. They also have Cobie Durant and Emmanuel Forbes on the depth chart but both will be free agents after 2025 so there isn’t much long-term security at the position.

It would be hardly surprising if the Rams end up making a move for Ramsey but the price has to be right, both financially and compensation-wise.
