While the 2025 NFL draft is in the books, there are still details emerging about the Chicago Bears‘ attempting to trade up in the second round.

It’s no secret that the Bears were in the market for a running back, be it Ashton Jeanty (who was off the board at sixth overall) or TreVeyeon Henderson or Quinshon Judkins (who were gone before Chicago’s second rounder). And there have been multiple reports in the previous weeks about the Bears inquiring about trading up in an effort to land one of those second-round running backs.

In a new behind-the-scenes video released by the New England Patriots, it was revealed that Chicago inquired about flipping second rounders (New England’s 38th for the Bears’ 39th) and the Patriots acquiring an additional seventh-round selection.

The expectation is that the Bears were trying to make a move for Henderson, who would’ve been a huge get for Chicago’s backfield. New England probably would’ve went through with the trade, too, if they hadn’t been targeting the same player.

Ultimately, the Patriots stayed put and drafted Henderson leaving the Bears with a decision to pivot. In the end, Chicago selected wide receiver Luther Burden III, who many had pegged as a first-round pick, with the 39th overall selection.

We’ll see which pick winds up being the most impactful one, and it feels like the Burden selection will go a long way for head coach Ben Johnson.
