Ahead of the Week 17 matchup at Huntington Bank Field, the Cleveland Browns are bringing in a former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman to bolster depth.

The Browns have signed former Steelers offensive lineman Kendrick Green to their 53-man roster off the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad.

A third-round pick of the Steelers in the 2021 NFL Draft, Green has bounced around the NFL in recent years. The Illinois product spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Houston Texans after being traded by the Steelers. Green signed a one-year deal with the Bills in the offseason before being cut at the end of training camp and spending the season on their practice squad.

He has yet to play a snap in an NFL game this season.

The Browns enter the work week ahead of their Week 17 matchup against the Steelers dealing with some injuries in the trenches. Ahead of Week 16 against the Bills, the Browns placed right tackle Jack Conklin on Injured Reserve. Interior offensive linemen Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller have been limited in recent weeks in practice with knee and calf injuries, respectively.

Green has logged snaps at left guard, center and right guard in his NFL career.

Following the retirement of Maurkice Pouncey after the 2020 season, the Steelers found themselves in need of a center. They decided Green was that answer despite very little playing time at the position in college with the Fighting Illini.

In his rookie season, Green was inserted into the Steelers’ starting lineup in future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s final season. He struggled in 975 snaps at center, committing nine penalties and allowing 18 pressures and three sacks.

After that season, the Steelers brought in veteran Mason Cole to solidify center, pushing Green to a reserve role. In recent years, Green has caught quite a few strays from Roethlisberger, including earlier this season when Roethlisberger shared some of his frustrations with the Steelers giving him a center who had never played the position before while Aaron Rodgers got a bunch of playmakers.

It led to a funny viral moment on X from Green, and an apology from Roethlisberger. But it was a messy situation with Green and the Steelers right from the jump. Now, he potentially gets a shot at revenge in a key Week 17 game in which the Browns don’t have anything to play for, other than trying to ruin the Steelers’ season.

Green has played one game in his career against the Steelers, which came in Week 3 of the 2023 season while a member of the Texans. He played 68 snaps that day in a Houston win, allowing just one pressure.
