GREEN BAY — Christian Watson is quite the talented wide receiver, but he’s not a doctor — and he doesn’t play one in the Green Bay Packers’ locker room.

But Watson was at practice on Wednesday, catching balls from Jordan Love and watching his quarterback progress through the NFL’s concussion protocol. And from Watson’s untrained eye — and based on conversations he had with Love during the course of the day — Watson is encouraged by the progress his friend and teammate has made since absorbing Chicago Bears defensive lineman Austin Booker last Saturday night.

And, Watson is clearly counting on Love being back under center for this Saturday night’s matchup between the Packers (9-5-1) and Baltimore Ravens (7-8) at Lambeau Field.

“He’s looked really good. He’s looked really good,” Watson said after practice, for which Love was listed as a limited participant on the official injury report. “From everything that I’ve talked to him about, he feels like he’s in a good spot.

“Obviously, he’s got to clear everything. I think he’s just approaching it like a normal week in terms of how he’s going about everything and then obviously he’ll just let the medical staff take care of the rest.

“But, he’s looked like J-Love out there, so obviously if he does get the opportunity to play on Saturday, I know he’ll be ready to go.”

Although Love is clearly trending in the right direction, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur cautioned that concussion symptoms can return just when a player looks like he’s almost in the clear.

LaFleur had said during his morning press briefing that he expects the medical staff to give him a thumbs up/thumbs down on Love’s availability for Saturday night before game day, but then rescinded that statement.

“I would anticipate knowing prior to game day, but who knows? I mean, like, I really don’t know. So, I’m going to retract what I said and say that,” LaFleur said. “I don’t even like to say the C-word.

“It’s just a very delicate issue. We’ve seen it with certain guys — they come in, they feel great one day and then the next day they don’t. So it kind of is a little bit of a moving target.”

Still, offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said he was planning on Love practicing again on Thursday during the Packers’ Christmas Day afternoon practice.

“He’s obviously in the protocol and everything like that, but he’s doing everything,” Stenavich said of Love. “We’ll see how it goes this week, but hopefully we can get him through the protocol and everything’s good.”

“I think he’ll be out there, again [on Thursday], with limits and things. But I think he’ll be out there.”

Meanwhile, the murky status of No. 2 quarterback Malik Willis is complicating matters. Willis had been limited on Tuesday with a right (shoulder) injury he suffered against the Bears and then missed practice altogether on Wednesday because of an illness.

But Watson said he has not taken any snaps in practice with No. 3 quarterback Clayton Tune, who is on the practice squad and would have to be elevated to the 53-man roster to be eligible to serve as the emergency third quarterback on game day.

“He’s got a pretty good grasp. He’s a smart guy,” LaFleur said of Tune, who has been traveling with the team to road games and using that extra time to bolster his understanding of the offense. “He attacks it the right way. He spends a ton of time with [quarterbacks coach] Sean Mannion post-practice trying to get extra reps, trying to work on his fundamentals and techniques.”
