Cooke’s 52.0 gross punt average in week 16 led the AFC, and he tied for most punts inside the 20-yard line in the NFL.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars are rewriting franchise history.
The Jaguars announced on Wednesday that punter Logan Cooke has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the team’s 34-20 win against the Denver Broncos at Mile High Stadium.
In week 16, Cooke’s 52.0 gross punt average led the AFC among players with multiple punts. He was also tied for the most punts pinned inside the 20-yard line in the NFL.
Since Cooke entered the NFL, the Jaguars say he leads the league in net punting average (43.4) and punts inside the 10-yard line (93). Additionally, his 216 punts inside the 20-yard line rank third.
This is the second time this season and 31st time that a player on the Jaguars has won the award, and the first time in Cooke’s eight-year career that he has been named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Paired with QB Trever Lawrence being named AFC Offensive Player of the Week against the New York Jets, this is the ninth time in franchise history that players have won back-to-back player of the week awards.
Earlier in December, Cooke was named the Jaguars nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.
