The Las Vegas Raiders only have two games left this season, but are already looking to next year. Star tight end Brock Bowers and starting safety Jeremy Chinn have been placed on Injured Reserve, which means they’re out for the rest of the season.

By sending Chinn and Bowers to IR, the Raiders opened up two roster spots. The team announced that they have signed safety Terrell Edmunds and wide receiver Shedrick Jackson to the active roster.

#RAIDERS ROSTER MOVES:

– Placed TE Brock Bowers and S Jeremy Chinn on the Reserve/Injured List

– Signed S Terrell Edmunds and WR Shedrick Jackson to the active roster

– Signed #39 LS Luke Elkin and #77 T Joshua Miles to the practice squad

Both players were previously on the practice squad, but will now get a chance to prove that they can return to the team next season. Edmunds is a former first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has started 79 games in his career, so he’d be a logical replacement for Chinn on the defense.

Jackson has had three chances to play for the Raiders this season and caught a touchdown on his only career catch. Notably, he is the nephew of legendary former Raiders running back Bo Jackson. He’s not the same athlete that his uncle was, but he’s shown some flashes of playmaking ability.

With the Raiders winding down on the season, there should be some chances for players like Edmunds and Jackson to prove that they deserve another look next year.

Alex Bachman Draws Praise

One player who has been making a name for himself this season is wide receiver Alex Bachman. He previously had a very hard time getting beyond the practice squad, but he’s proven he can be an impact player in the return game.

He only has two catches on the season, but head coach Pete Carroll likes what he’s seen from the veteran.

“He’s been amazing,” Carroll told reporters Monday. “He did this on his own. He has been knocked around and a lot of guys could have got discouraged or whatever, but as far as what we’ve seen, we’ve seen nothing but really productive, high-performance stuff throughout practice that just keeps reminding you this guy needs to be part of what we’re doing. So, I’ve been on the Alex Bachman team for a while now supporting him and hoping he can get his chances and all that.”

Geno Smith Talks Giants DL

The Raiders and New York Giants are facing off in Week 17, and while both teams have had nightmare seasons, there is one thing the Giants do well: rush the passer. Raiders quarterback Geno Smith has been sacked more than any quarterback in the NFL this season (52).

Smith knows that he could have a long day against a really strong Giants defensive line.

“I mean, it starts up front with their interior,” Smith told reporters on Tuesday. “You talk about Dexter Lawrence, one of the better nose tackles in the game. I mean, just a big, strong, massive human being. So, we’ve got to have a plan for him. Brian Burns on the edge, 15 sacks, always been explosive his entire career, can bend, long arm, has all the traits. Abdul Carter, young rookie, he’s really flashing as of late.”
