Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald amended the organization’s practice schedule this week to reward the players with Christmas Day off. Thursday would normally be the final practice session leading to Sunday’s contest, but players were thankful to spend time with their loved ones. That doesn’t necessarily apply to the coaching staff as well.
Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak was among those meeting with the media on Christmas Eve. Kubiak was asked about his evening. Kubiak said laughingly that he’d be working on the Seahawks’ red-zone offense before wishing the media Merry Christmas (tongue in-cheek).

Hopefully Kubiak spent quality time with loved ones too, but it’s a reminder of the sacrifices that come with a demanding coaching job.
The Seahawks rank 18th in converting red-zone possessions into touchdowns with a 58% success-rate, according to Team Rankings. That percentage has been below-average at 44.44% in Seattle’s latest three games. It’s no surprise Kubiak spent Christmas Eve racking his brain on red-zone strategy.
The 12-3 Seahawks will travel to Carolina to face the Panthers on Sunday in Week 17. They’re attempting to remain ahead of the 11-4 Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers in the NFC West. Better efficiency in the red-zone would increase their chances of clinching the No. 1 seed in the competitive conference.
