The Lions are 8-7 after a heartbreaking 29-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday that put Detroit’s playoff chances on life support. The Lions need to win out and have the Green Bay Packers lose out in order to sneak into the playoffs as the seven seed and make it three straight postseason appearances for the first time since 1993 through 1995. They are coming off back-to-back losses for the first time since 2022, coach Dan Campbell’s second year, when they lost five straight between Week 3 and Week 8.
The Vikings are 7-8 and have won three straight, all against the NFC East teams that aren’t heading to the playoffs. On Sunday, Minnesota won its second straight road game, taking down the New York Giants, 16-13, a week after defeating the Dallas Cowboys 34-26. The Vikings will be without quarterback J.J. McCarthy as they attempt to finish above .500 for the second straight year for the first time since 2017 through 2019 when they went 13-3, then 8-7-1 and then 10-6.
In Week 9, these teams met in Detroit and Minnesota pulled out a 27-24 victory.
