Texans vs Chargers | NFL Week 17 Preview & Prediction
Justin Herbert, Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers face CJ Stroud, Will Anderson Jr, Demeco Ryans and the Houston Texans in a huge AFC matchup with playoff implications.
Both teams are very much alive to win their divisions, the Chargers simply need to win their last 2 to win the AFC West, while the Texans need to win their last 2 and the Jaguars to lose one of their last to to win the AFC South.
Derek Stingley Jr is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL he’ll be matched up with Quentin Johnston at times and Ladd McConkey, Keenan Allen, even potentially the rookie running back Omarion Hampton who has been a bolt of energy to the Chargers running game after he returned from injury. Besides Stingley, Kamari Lassiter in his own right is a likely also a top 10 corner in the league and will make life very difficult on Charger’s receivers with Azeez Al-Shair in the middle laying waste to any ill advised throws and Calen Bullock roaming behind him.
The Texans defensive line has a great opportunity to dominate the trenches, Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson are the best edge duo in the league and with Herbert missing his two starting tackles for a large part of the season with the Joe Alt injury and the Rashawn Slater injury, this will be the toughest test of the season for this Chargers offense.
Defensively the Chargers have a top 5 defensive unit led by Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipolotu up front and still one of the best defensive backs in the leage, Derwin James Jr making plays at the line of scrimmage and all around the field. Jessie Minter will have his hands full with the challenges that Nico Collins presents with his size, the Chargers likely need to double him and for CJ Stroud to throw to Dalton Schultz or Jayden Higgins the number 2 and 3 targets for the Texans offense.
