Indianapolis Colts’ head coach Shane Steichen is “hopeful” that cornerback Sauce Gardner could return this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Steichen said that Gardner is progressing well with his calf injury.
“Hopeful that he can go,” Steichen told reporters.
Gardner has missed the last three games with a calf strain — an injury he suffered in Week 13 against Houston.
In Gardner’s first two games with the Colts, he has allowed five receptions on 10 targets for 38 yards with two pass breakups. He’s also made 12 tackles.
Without Gardner on Monday Night, the San Francisco passing game picked apart the Colts‘ secondary. Mekhi Blackmon, Cameron Mitchell, and Johnathan Edwards were the Colts’ top outside cornerback options.
The team is also without Charvarius Ward, who is on injured reserve.
At 8-7, the Colts’ playoff hopes are still barely alive but do exist. A win over Jacksonville is a mus,t and some help from the LA Chargers is also needed this week.
