At halftime of the final Christmas Day game, the Kansas City Chiefs surprisingly lead the Denver Broncos 7-6. It was a defense-dominated half, with the two teams combining to average just over 4.0 yards per play.
Kansas City leads thanks to a touchdown pass from Chris Oladokun to rookie running back Brashard Smith, which came on the ensuing drive after Broncos quarterback Bo Nix was intercepted on a fantastic play by both Kristian Fulton, who dove to break up the pass and tipped the ball into the air, and Nick Bolton, who dove and caught the ball before it hit the ground.
Denver had actually gotten the game started with an extended opening drive that moved deep into Kansas City territory, only to stall out and settle for a field goal after controlling the ball for more than half of the first quarter. The Broncos had a chance to extend the lead with their next drive, but Nix’s pass was intercepted, which set up the aforementioned Chiefs score.
The Broncos went on another extended drive toward the end of the half, moving the ball deep into Kansas City territory, but again stalled out and had to settle for a field goal, cutting the lead to a point heading into the halftime break.Â
Will the Chiefs pull off the upset, or will the Broncos strengthen their hold on the top spot in the conference? We’ll find out soon enough. Keep it locked to our live blog throughout the evening for updates on the game.
