The Spring Valley graduate came to USC after a stellar career in high school as a quarterback.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — DQ Smith’s journey from Spring Valley to South Carolina will now take him to what he hopes are plenty of working Sundays in the fall.

The South Carolina safety has officially delared for the NFL Draft after four years in a Gamecock uniform.

The former News19 Player of the Week was an outstanding quarterback at Spring Valley, but came to USC as a defensive back. He started 45 of 48 games and recorded 228 tackles, five interceptions and 16 pass deflections for his career.

His freshman season of 2022 saw him play in all 13 games, starting 11. He returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown against Notre Dame in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.
