Jaguars CB done for year
Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jourdan Lewis will have season-ending foot surgery, a person familiar with the injury told the Associated Press on Thursday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because neither the player nor the team has confirmed Lewis’ status. Lewis injured his foot in a 34-20 victory at Denver last Sunday. NFL Network first reported Lewis’ pending surgery. Jacksonville placed Lewis on injured reserve and signed cornerback Keith Taylor to fill his spot on the 53-man roster. Taylor has played for Carolina, Kansas City and Atlanta over five seasons. Lewis is the team’s second starting cornerback lost for the season, following rookie Travis Hunter (knee). Lewis, Hunter and Tyson Campbell opened the season as the team’s top three cornerbacks. Now, all are gone for Jacksonville’s playoff run. The Jaguars swapped starting cornerbacks with Cleveland in early October, sending Campbell north for Greg Newsome II. Newsome, Montaric Brown (Ashdown/Arkansas Razorbacks) and Jarrian Jones will be counted on to handle the workload down the stretch, beginning at Indianapolis on Sunday, and in the postseason.
Chiefs put Remigio on IR
The Kansas City Chiefs placed top return man Nikko Remigio on injured reserve before their game against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, their third wide receiver to land on the IR list in a matter of two days. Remigio was a full participant in practice Monday but had not practiced the past two days because of a knee injury. He joined the IR list alongside Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton, who were put there Wednesday because they were still in the concussion protocol. The Chiefs, who were already eliminated from playoff contention prior to their game Thursday, also put top cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson on injured reserve this week. McDuffie has been dealing with a knee injury and Watson with a groin problem. In a flurry of moves, the Chiefs signed linebacker Cole Christiansen, cornerback Melvin Smith Jr. (Southern Arkansas) and defensive ends Ethan Downs and Tyreke Smith to the active roster. Defensive back Nazeeh Johnson was activated from the IR, and wide receiver Jason Brownlee and offensive lineman Matt Waletzko were promoted from the practice squad.
Jackson doubtful; Love possible
Lamar Jackson is listed as doubtful for Baltimore’s game against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night as he continues to deal with a back injury that knocked him out of the game against the New England Patriots last weekend. Green Bay (9-5-1) has its own quarterback issues after Jordan Love left the Packers’ 22-16 overtime loss at Chicago last weekend because of a concussion. Love and Green Bay backup Malik Willis are both listed as questionable for Saturday’s game against the Ravens (7-8).

Johnson avoids major injury
The Denver Nuggets got good news Wednesday when an MRI revealed that forward Cameron Johnson suffered only a bone bruise to his right knee and not any ligament or structural damage, according to a person familiar with the medical test results. Johnson got hurt early in the fourth quarter of Denver’s 131-130 loss at Dallas on Tuesday night. ESPN reported Thursday that Johnson would be reevaluated in four to six weeks. He’s the third Nuggets starter sidelined by injury, joining Aaron Gordon (hamstring) and Christian Braun (ankle). Denver entered a Christmas night matchup with Minnesota third in the Western Conference.

A’s extend Soderstrom
The Athletics have agreed with left fielder Tyler Soderstrom on a seven-year, $86 million contract extension, ESPN reported Thursday. The deal is reportedly the largest guaranteed contract in franchise history. Soderstrom hit 25 home runs with a .275 batting average and 93 RBI last season for the A’s, who are scheduled to move to Las Vegas in 2028.
