“Revenge” seems to be a theme for the 2025 Seattle Seahawks, and will continue to be one of the major storylines throughout the regular season. Seattle already has several “revenge” games on the dockett. Sam Darnold will face the Minnesota Vikings. The Seahawks secondary will have to defend against DK Metcalf on the Steelers and Tyler Lockett on the Titans. Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak must attack his former team, the New Orleans Saints. And wide receiver Cooper Kupp will have two games against the LA Rams – the team he won a Super Bowl MVP award with.
But there will be another revenge game slated for the Seahawks. In Week 9, Seattle will travel to the east coast for a Sunday Night Football showdown against the Washington Commanders. There, they will play against a pair of familiar faces:
Future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner, and head coach Dan Quinn.
Quinn and Wagner will forever be made men when it comes to the City of Seattle. Wagner of course created a legacy of being inarguably the best linebacker during the 2010’s and of all time… all while wearing the neon and navy of the Seahawks. Who helped Wagner reach these heights? Dan Quinn, who was his defensive coordinator during Seattle’s Super Bowl runs in 2013 and 2014.
When Wagner was first released by the Seahawks, it was on less than ceremonious terms. The Seahawks released Wagner and were not able to reach him to inform him of the move. General manager John Schneider and then-head coach Pete Carroll owned the mistake, apologized, and clearly mended fences with the Canton-bound linebacker as he did come home to the Seahawks for the 2023 season. Wagner’s second departure from Seattle was a much less acrimonious situation, but I am more than certain he would love to hand his former team a defeat to remind them they should have kept him around for a little bit longer.
As for Quinn, he left the Seahawks willingly to become the head coach for the Atlanta Falcons. However, he was interviewed by Seattle – twice – after they moved on from Pete Carroll, but obviously decided to hire Mike Macdonald instead. I’m equally sure Quinn would also love to prove to his former team he was worthy of another chance in the Pacific Northwest.
All this to say, both sides have Week 9 circled on their calendars and are eagerly awaiting this prime opportunity.
