The Week 16 matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears didn’t just have fans from both teams tuning in.

The game looked out of reach for Chicago until a late field goal from Cairo Santos made it 16-9 with under two minutes to go.

Even with multiple timeouts, the Bears opted to try an onside kick to get the ball back. Romeo Doubs attempted to field it, but had the ball hit off his hands as Chicago recovered.

The Bears forced overtime with a touchdown from rookie receiver Jahdae Walker. Caleb Williams then threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to D.J. Moore for the win.

The game was definitely exciting for Bears fans, but it also drew the attention of over 21 million people. Via Fox Sports PR on X, the game officially drew 21.3 million viewers. The game was the most-viewed telecast of the day on any network.

The views were also up 39% from last year’s comparable telecast.

Chicago is now officially in the playoffs after the events that took place in Week 16. The Bears first needed to beat the Packers, but also needed a Detroit Lions loss. Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers took care of that, defeating the Lions 29-24 to punch the Bears’ ticket to the postseason.

There is still work that needs to be done, even though a playoff spot is guaranteed for the Bears. Chicago can win the NFC North in Week 17 as long as it beats the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night.

The Bears could also win the division if the Packers lose to the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday.

The No. 1 seed in the NFC is still up for grabs, too. The Bears are the No. 2 seed, sitting behind the Seattle Seahawks. However, if the Seahawks lose one of their final two games and the Bears win out, Chicago will take the No. 1 seed, guaranteeing a first-round bye in the playoffs.

There’s no denying that the Bears are must-see TV under first-year head coach Ben Johnson. Johnson took a team that went 5-12 last season and has turned them into a true NFC contender.

It’s wild to think this team was among the worst in the NFL under former head coach Matt Eberflus in 2024.

Sunday night’s game will be between two teams that have already clinched playoff spots, with the 49ers doing so in Week 16. Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC and Peacock.
