The Jets defense is on the verge of making NFL history for all the wrong reasons but one NFL analyst believes they will get an interception in one of their final two games.
No team in NFL history has gone an entire season without an interception but the Jets are running out of time to get one. On a recent appearance on CBS Sports HQ, NFL and college football analyst Emory Hunt said there were still favorable opportunities for the Jets to get one. They face the New England Patriots on Sunday and the Buffalo Bills in the regular-season finale.
“They may play the Bills with a backup quarterback,” Hunt said. “It depends on how everything shakes out. You may even see the Patriots play with their backup quarterback. That also depends on how everything shakes out. I’d be willing to say they’ll find a way if you play a backup quarterback. I believe in the Jets. I believe in you, (head coach) Aaron Glenn. I believe in that defense. Go out there and get a pick.”
Hunt also pointed out the irony that the Jets haven’t had an interception with Glenn as the head coach.
“You don’t want to be on the record books for not having an interception the entire season, especially when your head coach is a former All-Pro, elite-level cornerback that had great ball skills,” Hunt said. “I am blown away by the statistic that no one has ever finished without an interception. That’s 17 games. They even gave you an extra game and you still haven’t caught an interception yet. They’ll get one whether it be this week or next week.”
