Keagan Smith shares his favorite player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Saturday’s NFL Week 17 matchup between the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Chargers.
The Christmas Day slate of NFL games came and went, but the Week 17 action keeps rolling on Saturday with a pair of matchups with postseason implications. The Houston Texans are looking to punch their ticket to the playoffs with a road win over the Los Angeles Chargers, marking a rematch of last season’s Wild Card contest.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, Los Angeles is a very slight -1.5 favorite with -125 odds on the Moneyline. Houston comes in with +105 ML odds on the road with the game total set at 39.5 combined points.
Here are the top player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Texans vs. Chargers in Week 17.
Texans vs. Chargers best prop bets
Omarion Hampton under 64.5 rushing yards (-110)
Rookie halfback Omarion Hampton’s first season at the pro level hasn’t played out as he surely hoped for, or as many pundits expected it to. It took a couple of weeks for him to truly settle in with the lead role to begin the year, then injuries kept the first-rounder sidelined for a couple of months. He finally returned three games ago and has operated in something of a timeshare with Kimani Vidal, running for 56, 61 and 85 yards in those appearances this month. He seems to be nearing full strength again, and his primary backfield mate is questionable with a neck injury for Saturday’s game after logging DNP sessions to start the week before a limited practice on Thursday. While a potential absence for Vidal would certainly raise both the floor and ceiling for Hampton, the rookie could very well still remain under his O/U of 64.5 rushing yards due to the matchup against Houston. The Texans allow just 96.2 rushing yards per game to opponents, fourth-fewest, which doesn’t bode well for the Chargers’ rushing attack. There have been nine games this season in which that defense held opposing backfields under 70 combined yards. Volume could get Hampton over 64.5, but it’ll be a very tough task against this unit.
Danielle Hunter 2+ sacks (+309) OR Will Anderson Jr. 2+ sacks (+274)
The Texans’ defense stifles the run, but that’s not all they do. This is one of the NFL’s most elite units in just about every facet of the game, and while the interior of the defensive line has been marred by some injuries, the pass rush remains one of the deepest in the league. The star duo of EDGE talents Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. have combined for 24.5 of Houston’s 41 stats with 13 and 11.5 apiece, respectively. They’re both fearsome rushers off the edge and surely spent the last few nights dreaming about the opportunity to face this depleted Chargers offensive line. Los Angeles lost star tackles Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater for the season, and the replacement for one of them — Jamaree Salyer — is out with a hamstring issue. The rest of the offensive trenches are also dealing with various bumps and bruises, and guard Mekhi Becton (knee) is questionable for Saturday. The Chargers allow a sack percentage of 9.38%, a bottom-five mark in the NFL. Against some elite and versatile rushers off the edge, Justin Herbert may be in for a long day. Pick your poison on which of these Texans stars log multiple sacks, but the plus odds are very much worthwhile.
