The New York Jets have claimed former Los Angeles Rams defensive back Christopher Smith off waivers. Smith appeared in four games with the Rams during the 2025 season before he was waived. He started the year with the Las Vegas Raiders before they let him go in November.
Smith is a former Georgia Bulldog. He was a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft. He joins a former Georgia teammate, Jets wide receiver Arian Smith, in New York.
In his three seasons in the NFL, Smith has appeared in 40 games and has 10 total tackles. Smith primarily has served a special teams role in the NFL. He is projected to have a similar role for the Jets, who are 3-12. However, New York has a very beat up secondary, so there’s a chance he could earn snaps with its defense.
At Georgia, Smith won a pair of national championships. In his five-year college career, Smith posted six interceptions (including a 74-yard pick six against Clemson in 2021), 131 tackles and had a memorable blocked field goal return for a touchdown in the 2022 SEC championship game.
