The Cincinnati Bengals season was a disappointment, but Ja’Marr Chase’s continued quest to be one the greatest wide receivers in NFL history will be one of the few bright spots this year.

Chase was rewarded for his excellence on the field once again with a fifth consecutive Pro Bowl nod. He joins former Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green (2011-15) as the only players in team history to be selected to the Pro Bowl in each of their first five years in the league.

“A good compliment on stacking my years, being the same person every year.” Chase said on Dec. 26 of his reaction to being named to another Pro Bowl.

In addition to being one of the best players in the NFL, Chase has been one of the most consistent players inside the Bengals’ locker room since he was drafted with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

In five seasons with the Bengals, Chase has 505 receptions for 6,681 yards and 51 touchdowns. He won the NFL’s triple crown (a receiver who leads the league in catches, yards and touchdowns) in 2024 and showed no signs of slowing down this season.

Chase ranks second in the NFL with receptions (110) and fourth in receiving yards (1,256) and has five touchdown catches this year.

He was named a team captain for the first time in his professional career ahead of this season. Not much has gone right for the Bengals, but Chase has been a consistent leader for the team with his performance on the field.

Chase has been heavily decorated in his five seasons. He was the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2021, AP first-team All Pro and finalist for NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2023, on top of being named to the Pro Bowl in each season he’s played in the league.

And still, it never gets old to Chase when he receives these types of accolades because he sees the bigger picture.

“I’ll take it now because when I know I’m older, I won’t get that … So I’ll take it now,” he said when asked if receiving these honors ever gets old.

The Bengals have two games left in their lost season and then will get to work on creating a path this offseason that leads the franchise back to the playoffs after missing three consecutive postseasons.

And they’ll do so knowing they have Chase, their only Pro Bowler this season, under contract through the 2029 season. The Bengals gave Chase a four-year extension in March worth $161 million, including $112 million guaranteed.

The Pro Bowl Games include a variety of skills competitions and a 7-on-7 flag football game and will take place on Feb. 3 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. ESPN will televise the Pro Bowl Games.
