“It reminded me of a guy who used to play in New England.” – Ryan Fitzpatrick on Drake Maye

Former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is admittedly scared that the New England Patriots have another “stud” on their hands at the quarterback position.
Fitzpatrick played for every AFC East team but the Patriots. So it’s not too far-fetched to suggest that he was probably giddy at the thought of New England’s demise in the post-Tom Brady era. Now, the Patriots are sitting at 12-3, tied for the best record in the NFL, with a real opportunity to win the AFC East divisional title and claim the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
It was basically a snap of a finger with the team drafting Maye and hiring Mike Vrabel as the new head coach, and it’s like old times again for the Patriots.
“[The Patriots] finally made me a believer,” Fitzpatrick admitted on Fitz & Whit. “Watching them against Baltimore, they came back, but it was more of just the play of Drake Maye. He’s all of a sudden developed this great pocket presence. It reminded me of a guy that used to play there. It scared the crap out of me. I don’t like seeing it. …After that Baltimore game, it looks like [New England’s] got another stud. Now I am completely convinced Drake Maye is going to ruin my life and take over the AFC East.”
Maye certainly looks the part of one of the next great young quarterbacks in the NFL.
He has been neck-and-neck in the MVP conversation with Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford throughout most of the season. In only his second NFL season, he has thrown for 3,947 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions, with a 70.9 completion percentage.
The Patriots could be set at the most important position on the field for the next 10-plus years.
