The New York Giants have had six head coaches since Tom Coughlin left the building after the 2015 season: Ben McAdoo, Steve Spagnuolo (interim), Pat Shurmur, Joe Judge, Brian Daboll, and Mike Kafka (interim).
They will be hiring their seventh, likely in the next six weeks, and will have a deep field of candidates to choose from.
Today, we focus on another of those young, talented coaches the Giants will be considering: Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.
Kubiak, 38, is the son of former NFL quarterback and Super Bowl-winning head coach Gary Kubiak. The younger Kubiak is going to be a hot name on the coaching carousel this offseason.
Kubiak is in his 12th NFL season as an assistant and first with the Seahawks under head coach Mike McDonald. He previously served as the offensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings and the passing game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos.
He could be the perfect candidate to help develop quarterback Jaxson Dart and his unlimited potential.
Although Kubiak has a deep, well-rounded, and accomplished resume, he has never been a head coach. Four of the Giants’ last six coaches have come from the coordinator ranks. Only Spagnuolo and Shurmur had prior head coaching experience, and both were failures at the position.
The Giants’ main issue the past decade has been a lack of leadership and discipline. Whoever they decide to hire must have those boxes checked before their football knowledge and abilities come into play, or the Giants will never get off this losing treadmill.
