Week 17’s Sunday Night Football matchup will be between the Chicago Bears (11-4) and the San Francisco 49ers (11-4).

The Bears and 49ers are guaranteed playoff spots but are competing for the No. 1 seed. Each team needs to win out and hope that the Seattle Seahawks lose one of their final two games.

If the 49ers beat the Bears, they could make that happen, as they face the Seahawks to close out the regular season. It won’t matter if Chicago wins on Sunday, obviously.

A case can be made for either team to pull away with the win.

For the Bears, the story of this defense all season long has been creating turnovers. Chicago leads the NFL with 31 turnovers heading into Week 17, and it’s lucky to face a team like San Francisco with problems in that area.

The 49ers have used both Mac Jones and Brock Purdy this season due to injuries, and both have struggled to avoid turning the ball over to the other team. Jones and Purdy have combined for 14 interceptions this season.

Additionally, the 49ers have 20 turnovers as a team, which ranks No. 10 for the most in the league.

There is also some cause for concern on San Francisco’s defensive side. The 49ers will be without Fred Warner, Nick Bosa and Mykell Williams for the remainder of the season, as all three are on injured reserve.

The 49ers recently allowed 44-year-old Philip Rivers and the Indianapolis Colts to put up 27 points and 312 yards of offense on them.

The Bears could run into some problems stopping the 49ers’ offense, which could cost them a win.

Even though San Francisco has dealt with injuries, it hasn’t let that slow it down. With all the injury issues, the 49ers still ranked No. 5 in passing yards (259.2), No. 9 in total yards (353.7) and No. 9 in points per game (26.1).

Then, there is the challenge of slowing down running back Christian McCaffrey. We saw how effective the Green Bay Packers were at keeping this Bears’ defense on the field with Josh Jacobs. McCaffrey poses an even bigger threat since he is a capable receiver as well.

If the Bears don’t keep McCaffrey in check, it could be a long game for them.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Bears adjust to the efficient offense that Kyle Shanahan runs. Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC and Peacock.
