And, just like that, it’s Week 17 in the National Football League. Gosh, where did the time go? The Philadelphia Eagles face one final major regular-season test, and it’s one of their toughest to date.

Their final road game of the campaign is against one of the AFC’s best teams. If the Eagles can reach the Super Bowl again, they could very well face the same team they’re playing on Sunday. They have met their share of heavyweights. Here comes another, the mighty Buffalo Bills. They aren’t a team Philadelphia plays often, but one of the newer Birds is very familiar with them.

Jaelan Phillips spent his first four NFL seasons and much of his fifth playing in the AFC East with the Miami Dolphins, where his old team played Josh Allen and company twice per season. He’s very familiar with Buffalo.

He recently spoke about the upcoming game as the Eagles continue to prepare.

“Definitely very familiar with them. Played them two times a year for the last five years, so they’re a dynamic team. Obviously, Josh Allen is incredible at what he does, maybe the best in the world at it. So, it’s always a challenge in itself to stop him.”

During most of his time in South Beach, the Bills typically had the Dolphins‘ number. Phillips did, however, recall a victory as part of the Dolphins during his days in South Beach. Perhaps the information will be helpful for Philadelphia.

“If you can’t stop [Allen], then you deal with James Cook. [You] have to stop him, too, but at that point, that’s pretty much their whole offense. So, if you can stop the run, control Josh, then that’s a recipe for success against them… Once in five years. You would’ve thought we won the Super Bowl the way we were excited about that. Granted, we had beaten them in like 7 years, so there was some pent-up aggression when it came to that… It will be nice to see them again.”

Phillips also mentioned that playing in upstate New York will be challenging and that Buffalo is one of the NFL’s actual home-field advantages. Eagles fans travel well. Plus, they have migrated to other areas for generations. It isn’t foreign to see a large sea of green taking over opposing stadiums, but that may not be the case vs. the Bills Mafia in Week 17.

Philadelphia may have a slight psychological advantage. Josh Allen has beaten 30 NFL teams. The only one he hasn’t beaten is the Eagles. In total, these proud franchises have crossed paths 15 times. Nine wins, including five of the last six, have gone in Philadelphia’s favor.
