The Pittsburgh Steelers promoted defensive back D’Shawn Jamison and lineman Jack Driscoll for Week 17 after dropping Jalen Ramsey’s injury designation.

Veteran Jalen Ramsey will play for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17 against the Cleveland Browns. But the Steelers still found it necessary to promote defensive back D’Shawn Jamison from the practice squad for Week 17.

The team announced Saturday it elevated Jamison, along with offensive lineman Jack Driscoll, for the Browns matchup. The pair will return to the practice squad after the game.

Jamison has appeared in one contest for the Steelers this season. The 26-year-old defensive back was also a practice squad elevation in Week 11 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Jamison played four snaps on special teams in that matchup. He didn’t appear on defense.

Driscoll was also a practice squad elevation for the Steelers the past two weeks against the Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions. However, Driscoll didn’t appear on the field.

If he plays Sunday versus the Browns, he will be making his Steelers debut.

Mike Tomlin’s club elevated both Jamison and Driscoll hours after removing Ramsey’s injury designation. Ramsey didn’t practice Thursday or Friday because of an illness, but he will dress in Week 17.

In addition to Ramsey’s changed status, the Steelers downgraded offensive guard Isaac Seumalo to out against the Browns. Seumalo is dealing with a triceps injury.

Steelers Promote Jack Driscoll, D’Shawn Jamison

The Steelers might not have badly needed Jamison to dress Sunday with Ramsey set to play. However, the team’s offensive line was a different story.

With Seumalo out, the Steelers will once again start backups at left tackle and guard. Although he’s played well, the Steelers are trusting former undrafted free agent Dylan Cook at left tackle for a third consecutive week.

Cook could face Defensive Player of the Year front runner Myles Garrett a lot during Week 17.

As he has the past two weeks, Driscoll will provide depth in case of another injury.

The Steelers added Driscoll to their practice squad in late October. A 2020 fourth-round pick, he arrived in Pittsburgh with 67 games of NFL experience.

With the Philadelphia Eagles, Driscoll started 18 contests over five seasons. During 2024, he appeared in 13 contests for the Super Bowl champions.

Driscoll received his first opportunity to dress in Pittsburgh during Week 15.

Jamison’s Week 11 appearance for the Steelers was his first regular season action since 2023. During that campaign, Jamison played 15 games for the Carolina Panthers.

He posted 10 combined tackles with one pass defense.

The San Francisco 49ers originally signed Jamison as an undrafted free agent in 2023. After spending his rookie year with the Panthers, the Steelers brought Jamison in on their practice squad during September 2024.

Jalen Ramsey to Play for Steelers in Week 17

With the questionable tag only due to an illness, it was likely Ramsey was going to dress in Week 17. But the Steelers confirmed that Saturday.

Ramsey set to play is significant because of Pittsburgh’s depleted secondary. The Steelers will be without veteran cornerbacks James Pierre and Brandin Echols against the Browns.

Although Ramsey has mostly played safety in recent weeks, he could receive snaps at cornerback to help overcome the loss of Pierre and Echols.

The Steelers can clinch the AFC North title with a victory against the Browns. The Steelers could also secure the division crown before kickoff if the Baltimore Ravens lose to the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night.
