The holiday fixtures are heating up in the NFL. Few will prove as consequential to shaping the postseason field as Saturday night’s centerpiece, a joust between two of the league’s most disappointing sides.

Both the Packers and Ravens entered 2025 with hopes to hoist the Lombardi Trophy come season’s end. Although that desire remains a possibility for both sides, things aren’t looking nearly as straightforward as they did in the summer and early fall.

Green Bay (9-5-1) is in a relative position of strength, holding a 1.5-game edge over NFC North rivals the Lions for the NFC’s final wild-card spot. The 2025 campaign has been an adventure for Matt LaFleur’s side, which saw its hopes for a divisional title go up in smoke when the Bears rallied from behind to down Green Bay at Soldier Field. With Jordan Love out with a concussion, LaFleur is set to hand the keys to the Packers’ attack to Malik Willis.

He performed admirably in relief of Love on Saturday night. A similar showcase against Baltimore’s underwhelming rearguard would pay major dividends for a Green Bay team one win away from clinching a wild-card berth.

As for the Ravens, things are coming undone at the seams. The contender of the past looks a shell of itself in the present, with underperformance, injuries and coaching incompetence bringing about the worst season in recent Baltimore history.

Baltimore still has a route back to postseason contention. But that seems unlikely at present — the Steelers face Shedeur Sanders and the lowly Browns in Week 17. Either way, things can’t go on as they have in Charm City for much longer. Lamar Jackson is facing his own injury crisis and is also out for Saturday’s game.

5:00 p.m.: With Jordan Love on the mend, Clayton Tune will take the mantle of second-stringer, replacing Malik Willis, who will serve as the game’s starter. Tune was elevated from Green Bay’s practice squad. He has appeared in 13 games across three seasons, making one start with the Cardinals in 2023.
