Dealing with some injuries ahead of the Week 17 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cleveland Browns elevated two players to the active/inactive roster for Sunday’s contest.

On Saturday, the Browns announced the elevations of quarterback Bailey Zappe and tight end Sal Cannella, important moves with quarterback Dillon Gabriel (left shoulder) and tight end Harold Fannin Jr. (groin) both listed as questionable for Week 17. Tight end David Njoku was also ruled out with a knee injury.

Selected by the Browns with the 94th overall pick in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Gabriel was named the starting quarterback ahead of Cleveland’s Week 5 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. He was eventually benched for fellow rookie teammate Shedeur Sanders, who will start against the Steelers this Sunday.

If Gabriel isn’t cleared to play against Pittsburgh, Zappe will serve as Sanders’ backup in what is shaping up to be a must-win game for the Steelers.
