The Tennessee Titans face the New Orleans Saints on Dec. 28 in the home finale coming off their best game of the season.
Both teams employ rookie starting quarterbacks and are playing their best football.
Tennessee (3-12) handled Kansas City on Dec. 21, with Cam Ward throwing for 228 yards and two touchdowns against the Chiefs’ well-regarded defense.
New Orleans (5-10) has won three games in a row, including victories over NFC playoff contenders Tampa Bay and Carolina.

The Titans are playing their best football since the Mike Vrabel era. The Saints look like they have the right coach in place. Both teams are playing better, and both offenses should have an edge. As a default, look to the gap in pedigree between the two rookie quarterbacks. Shough is playing well, but Ward’s still the higher upside player.

I’m suddenly bullish on these Titans. This all along has figured to be that rare home game they could win, but the Saints are playing better, too. A much more interesting matchup than it looked like it’d be for most of the season.

The difference in talent between the Saints and Titans is minimal. The difference in coaching? Enormous. Tyler Shough looks OK, and the New Orleans defense is playing hard.

The Saints are on a roll, winners of three straight. And while the Titans beat a depleted Chiefs team in Week 16, New Orleans right now has a better active offensive unit. That keeps the Titans from back-to-back wins.
