The New York Jets and the New England Patriots are ready to battle at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in Week 17. While the game doesn’t mean much for New York, New England finds itself in a battle with the Buffalo Bills for the lead in the AFC which makes this contest against New York nearly a must win matchup for the Patriots
New York is riding a three-game losing streak as the Jets look to finish the season without any additional injuries to the roster. Undrafted rookie QB Brady Cook will take the snaps for the Jets against a playoff-caliber defense from New England as he attempts to guide New York to their fourth win of the year.
New England has won 11-of-12 games, dating back to a Week 3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Patriots rolled through the NFL this season behind the play of second-year QB Drake Maye that has many football fans in New England dreaming of playoff success in a few weeks.
Week 17: New England Patriots (12-3) @ New York Jets (3-12)
Kick Off: 1:00 p.m. ET (Sun., 12/28/25)
Location: MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, New Jersey)
The visiting Patriots have a winning record against the betting numbers this season: the spread (10-6), the moneyline (12-3), and the over-under (9-6). The same cannot be said for the Jets in 2025 with two losing records (and one winning one!) against the numbers nearing the end of the NFL campaign. New York is near a .500 mark versus the spread (7-8) this season, while holding an awful record (3-12) against the moneyline. The Jets have been good against the over-under this season with a 9-6 mark on the season.

New England is a heavy road favorite in Week 17 with an 82% chance of victory on Sunday afternoon, according to ESPN Analytics.
Best bet: Brady Cook 175+ Passing Yards
Cook has started three games for the Jets in 2025, averaging 175 passing yards per contest. The 24-year-old QB struggled with a 47% passing accuracy in his first outing (vs. Miami) before throwing for a +60% completion percentage in Week 15 and 16. If the rookie can keep things close against the Patriots, New York could steal a victory from their AFC East rival.

New England features a top-10 passing defense, allowing 202 passing yards per game. The Patriots put a ton of emphasis on stopping the rushing attack as evidenced by their sixth-ranked run-stopping defense that allows 100.1 yards per game. If New York can get Breece Hall going (even just a little bit), it will go a long way to helping their undrafted QB find success in Week 17.

While the Week 17 matchup against the Patriots is fairly meaningless for New York, the results could have a massive impact on the seeding in the AFC playoffs. New England holds a slim one-game lead over the Buffalo Bills for control of the division. If New York can manage to upset New England this weekend, it could send the AFC postseason into chaos heading into Week 18.
