The Pittsburgh Steelers are treating star outside linebacker T.J. Watt differently than a normal injury after he suffered a partially collapsed lung during a dry needling treatment weeks ago.
According to sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson, Watt made the trip to Cleveland, which is a good step forward, but head coach Mike Tomlin made it clear that Watt would only return to the field if he is a full participant in practice throughout a week.
The Steelers would hope that could be next week in case they would need him against the Baltimore Ravens in what could be a winner-takes-all game if they lose to the Browns.
Watt was limited in practice for three straight days this week, but that does not meet the threshold that the 2021 Defensive Player of the Year has to meet for a return to play.
The Steelers will be getting Nick Herbig back against the Browns. AS Watt’s backup, Herbig has stepped in well and been productive in starts for Watt and Alex Highsmith, who have both been injured.
Watt’s return will still be massive for the Steelers when they get him back, as he draws a ton of attention when out on the field. He is the most chipped player in the NFL, only bringing that point home further.
