Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton has turned the team around in his short three years at the helm. From Christmas 2022 to Thursday night’s Christmas win, it really does signal the massive job Payton and his staff have done to make Denver contenders again.

The Broncos helped Sean Payton accomplish something only Bill Belichick has done before, with their 13th win of the season. Payton and Belichick are now the only two coaches in NFL history who have had 13 wins in five different seasons.

“I have been fortunate to have been on and coached a lot of great players,” said Payton after the game when asked about the accomplishment. “There is nothing like winning. When I heard that, I had trouble figuring out which were the 13-win teams. We had some other teams that were 12 or 11-win teams. I have been fortunate to have really good players and real good coaches. Some of them who are right here that have been a part of all of those wins, part of those wins. Obviously, Bill is good company. Let’s keep it going.”

Payton and his teams won 13 games in 2009, 2011, 2018, 2019 and 2025. The four previous times happened when Payton was steering the ship of the New Orleans Saints. Denver still has one game to go, and Payton has never won 14 games in his entire coaching career.

The Broncos can make that dream happen with a win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 18.
